Our Vision for the Portland Metro Area:

A community where everyone can thrive and homelessness is rare.

Our Impact

$700,000

We have raised $700,000 in donations and given it to 16 financial grant recipients

2,190

Organizations we have financially supported housed 2,190 people in the year they were vetted

$7,998

Housing costs of $7,998 per person compared to building one affordable housing unit at an average cost of $490,000*

Exciting News!

We’ve entered into a three-year partnership with Harry A Merlo Foundation. They’ve awarded HHF with a $300,000 grant to be distributed $100,000 annually. They understand and are fully aligned with our vetting process. In exchange for their financial commitment, they will forward to us the financial grant applications from homeless advocacy groups for us to vet. So this agreement is more than a substantial donation; it is a working partnership.

The Problem

The homeless crisis in Portland is getting worse, not better.  Most nonprofits that help the homeless provide compassionate care (food, clothing, medical needs, etc.).   We need to be compassionate towards the homeless, but compassionate care does not address the underlying causes of homelessness.  Without addressing these issues they are not solving the problem of homelessness.

What We Do

Hope for the Homeless Foundation provides funding for nonprofits that are most effective at helping the homeless gain stability, and when stable help them become housed.

Our Solution

There are over 325 organizations* in the Portland area helping the homeless. Which ones are worthy of being supported financially? This is where Hope for the Homeless Foundation comes in.

We vet nonprofits that help the homeless to determine which ones to support financially based on six critically important metrics.
